Who Knows How to Raise a Baby? No One.

I think I am finally realizing that no one knows how to raise a baby…even the “experts” all disagree with one another on the majority of baby-related topics. Ugh! This is a disheartening realization to someone who really wants to figure out how to do everything well and “right.” It’s also frustrating when you have been told from day 1 your baby is too small and not eating well enough, and now I am so paranoid about making any changes to his nursing schedule (and there is too much conflicting advice out there to even make an educated/confident decision). I love the internet but sometimes there is just too much info/too many opinions out there…I think I’ve decided I’d just like to raise my kids on old wives tales and in ignorant bliss like the good ol’ days, haha! They’ll live right!? ๐Ÿ™‚

I blog to share my life, entertain, inspire, inform, encourage, challenge (both myself and others), and of course, for personal therapy - haha! I love to write about meaningful experiences and a wide range of topics I find interesting. I particularly enjoy sharing life in a raw and barely censored fashion because I highly value authenticity.

  1. The best advice I ever got when raising my son (that wasn’t at all like the conflicting info I kept reading to try to be the “perfect” parent”) was that “You are the best parent for your child.” That simple. You know what your child needs. Only you can determine what is best for him. I hope this helps. Have confidence that you’re already doing a great job & he will turn out just fine ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. agreed! i have been learning that a lot over the past year. the bible is silent on a lot of parenting issues. i think God does that so that we constantly have to seek him for wisdom and increase our trust in him. feeling inadequate and a bit confused isn’t the worst thing in the world, if it increases your prayer life. ๐Ÿ™‚

unfortunately, it only gets harder. when your teenagers have to start making their own independent life and spiritual decisions with less input from you, you will be wishing for the days when all you had to worry about was how often to nurse your baby!

  3. I’ve no experience with parenting (yet)… But i heard a freakenomics podcast (economists) talk about it here; http://www.freakonomics.com/2011/08/17/new-freakonomics-radio-podcast-the-economists-guide-to-parenting/

basically in the end they don’t reach a conclusion, I’d still recommend listening to it. You hear interesting things like, It’s not the fact you bought a book about good parenting that you read and made you a good parent, it’s the fact you cared enough to buy the book in the first place.
